Melbourne Wedding – Mervyn&Esther, Part 1

kc-melbourne-wedding-photographer-me-00a

What a wedding. But first (like all Melbournians do), let’s talk about the weather! On Tuesday it was predicted for rain and winds up to 35km/h. On Wednesday it was predicted to hail, with winds up to 30km/h. But by Friday, somehow the weather turned up and just like the engagement session, where the weather was supposed to be for the worst, it was great on Saturday – some sun, some cloud, little wind.

During the engagement session a few months ago, I asked Mervyn what he loved about her, and basically his summary was, “She changed my world and made me a better person”. I didn’t quite comprehend this, but it was only during the best men’s speeches that I realized that yup, she really did. It was definitely one of the nicest, sweetest and most touching weddings I’ve been to. So much so that I had to blog about this wedding in TWO parts.

Yarra Valley, iPhone Style

I took my DSLR out for the weekend for a recent fund-raising event, but then I kept it in my overnight bag the whole time, being too lazy and thinking that it’s so not professional, seeing that I was being paid to work, not to make images. But I couldn’t help taking out the best (well, only other) camera with me. These were taken around the Yarra Valley. Captured on iPhone, edited in Lightroom. More »

Wedding Photography Location Ideas

This was published in the Melbourne Weekly on March 14th, but I thought I’d share it with you for you lovebirds out there. I typed it down so that it would be easier to read.

3 of the Best Places to Get Snap-Happy on Your Big Day

March is wedding season in Melbourne, so here are three of the best photography spots around town:

1. Central Park, Burke Road, Malvern East

With its sweeping paths, lush green lawns, fountain and ample car parking for your limo, Central Park has some spectacular photo locations. Just watch out for stray cricket balls.

2. Maling Road, Canterbury

Used as a movie and television location, the charming Maling Road shopping strip is the perfect backdrop for some cafe photos under the eaves of historical storefronts.

3. Maranoa Gardens, Parring Road, Balwyn

If you’re looking for something a little more rustic, take a wander through one of Australia’s oldest native gardens. Maranoa Gardens’ native plants are in a range of habitat styles.

So there you go. What do you think? I’ve never been locations 1 and 3, but I’ll be sure to go there someday!

Yarra Valley – Healesville

So I finally had time to get some holiday photos done. Did I mention that it’s been a CRAZY season? Been far too busy for my own good/health/sanity. Continuing on from De Bortoli Winery, we drove on to Healesville and Badger Weir. Badger Weir looks like a really pretty place for BBQs, picnics, walks, and of course, photos! We didn’t really take the walks (I haven’t mentioned it on the blog, but you’ll see why), but we enjoyed the natural attractions of the place. More »

Melbourne Engagement – Kris&Rosi

kc-melbourne-engagement-photography-kr-00

Kris&Rosi are getting married in July, and I have the pleasure and opportunity to capture their engagement/pre-wedding pictures. It was fun! We met up last Saturday down the Royal Botanic Gardens and took a nice walk, from the Yarra River all the way down to the Victoria Barracks on St Kilda Road. The quality of light was amazing, but then again so are the couple. It’s also a nice big coincidence that the couple used to worship at my home church, and Rosi worked in the same company as I did! Oh well. Small world. But anyway, hope you guys enjoy the pictures :) More »
